Google Map. A Sunday drive from Magog brings these pastoral vistas within easy reach. People seem scarce in northern New England; Burlington, Vermont, with a population of about 40,000, is the largest city in the region. The lakes formed by the upper Connecticut River to the northeast of Pittsburg in the far tip of New Hampshire feel as wild and pristine as any found in the mountain valleys of British Columbia. (See top picture.) A camping trip is planned.
